Introduction
The Maryland Commission on
Civil Rights (MCCR) is the agency responsible for enforcement of
anti-discrimination and civil rights laws for the State of Maryland. MCCR
is charged with investigating and administratively processing complaints that allege
discrimination in employment, housing, public accommodations and the State's
commercial non-discrimination policy.

Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position is to implement State Government Title 20 and the Commission’s Rules of Procedure through assignments of a variety of Agency functions. The person in this position serves as an Investigator of discrimination complaints; case processing specialist in investigations; intake officer in the main office; and community outreach/public information specialist.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Four years of administrative staff work experience.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in General Legal and Administrative classifications or General Legal and Administrative specialty codes in the Legal field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Legal/Court Room Proceedings experience
Alternative Dispute Resolution experience
Experience with Accessibility Issues
Experience in Housing Discrimination Issues
Undergraduate or Graduate Degree with legal course work in Civil Rights, Housing Discrimination, Americans with Disabilities Act, and Equal Employment Law
Proficiency in Spanish
Legal writing experience

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
