Main Purpose of Job

The Entrepreneurship Instructor is responsible for crafting detailed transition plans tailored to these students, ensuring they possess not only the educational foundation but also the entrepreneurial and vocational skills necessary for post-incarceration success. Through individualized support and resources, the Entrepreneurship Instructor serves as a critical bridge from incarceration to successful reintegration into Maryland’s communities and job market, with a special focus on empowering these individuals to explore self-employment and business creation. Their efforts are integral to the mission of providing exceptional education and support, paving the way for a smoother transition back into society and diminishing the chances of recidivating. By fostering a spirit of innovation and self-reliance, this role significantly contributes to not just the personal development of the individuals it serves, but also to the broader goal of revitalizing communities through the infusion of new businesses and entrepreneurial energy.

POSITION DUTIES


  • Networking with small businesses and state agencies that provide post-incarceration resources and entrepreneurship training and connecting students to organizations that best fit their needs.
  • Deliver lesson plans, course materials, and activities that cultivate entrepreneurial skills such as creativity, problem-solving, and business acumen.
  • Engage students in interactive and practical learning experiences
  • Lead discussions and guide students through the process of ideation, business planning, market analysis, and venture creation
  • Provide guidance and support to students as they develop their entrepreneurial ventures, providing feedback on their ideas and plans.
  • Create an environment that stimulates creativity, encourage students to explore new ideas, experiment with business concepts, and pursue innovative solutions.
  • Establish connections with local entrepreneurs, industry professionals, and business organizations to provide students with opportunities for mentorship, internships, and networking.
  • Evaluate student performance through assignments, presentations, exam, and project assessments, and provide constructive feedback to help students improve their skills and knowledge.
  • Promote entrepreneurships

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of case management experience in the field of workforce development delivering a wide range of career services to special and targeted populations of job seekers.  Case management duties are defined as taking job orders, conducting job-ready interviews, registering job applicants, verifying job referrals, conducting vocational placements, performing unemployment adjudications, or appraising job applicants for employability.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute education at an accredited college or university, at the rate of thirty credit hours for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer with active-duty military recruiting experience or career counseling experience on a year-by-year basis for the required education and experience.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (MD Dept of Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to Department of Labor /DUI as a result of an unemployment insurance overpayment and/or fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment. All candidates are also subject to a background check and finger printing by DPSCS.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.

FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS

U.S. Military Veterans may qualify for additional bonus points towards certification. Any job offer will be contingent on the candidate providing a U.S. Military form DD 214 verifying honorable discharge from service prior to starting employment (and may be requested prior to interview). Permanent State employees do not need to submit proof of Veterans’ status.
