POSITION DUTIES

If this is you, the Comptroller of Maryland, Taxpayer Services Division is seeking a Temporary Office Services Clerk to assist our Administrative Team. The main purpose of this job is to support the Administrative Unit of the Administration, Correspondence, and Employee Education Section (ACE) for Taxpayer Services Division (TSD), by assisting with clerical duties. This position will prepare, compile, and submit reports, process incoming mail, storage of documents, and perform basic human resources duties. This position will also have the ability to accept and respond to calls from internal and external customers. This position will also update and maintain daily attendance for the Administration, Correspondence, and Employee Education Section. The office schedule is: Monday-Friday from 8:00 am. -5:00 pm. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience performing clerical duties.

NOTES:

  1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours of education at an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.
  2. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the required experience.
  3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administrative classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
** For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States, please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalency evaluating members identified at http://www.naces.org/members.html.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A year of personal computer, software application, and customer service experience within the past year
  • Experience with clerical related work such as, creating/maintaining spreadsheets, filing/maintaining files, data entry
  • Experience with accepting and receiving business phone calls and emails

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

  • Work involves exposure to uncomfortable or unpleasant surroundings. May occasionally encounter unpleasant situations due to upset or irate taxpayers.
  • Work involves special physical demands such as lifting 25-35 pounds or more, climbing ladders, etc. Lifting boxes of office supplies, tax booklets, etc.
  • Leave may be limited during certain times of the year due to high volume events, projects, or special assignments.
  • Employees are unable to prepare tax returns outside of the requirements of the job or work for private accounting companies.
