Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to safely operate a fleet of State of Maryland vehicles for the purpose of transporting patients to and from appointments, etc. This Position is an experienced full performance level of work. This Position will also assist in the transporting, loading and unloading of cargoes, and the maintenance of vehicles and garages. An employee in this classification is responsible for the care and safety of the patients and their transporter (SGHC Staff) being transported to and from their destinations as well as to provide basic health care to passengers who have become acutely ill while in transit. This employee receives general supervision from the Transportation Coordinator or designee and does not possess supervisory duties and responsibilities. This position is considered an Essential Emergency Employee, receives general supervision and does not supervise. This position requires a valid Maryland Driver's License and is able to drive a state vehicle in accordance with the State of Maryland Policies and Procedures for Drivers of State Vehicles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Six months of experience operating automotive vehicles transporting passengers, patients or clients.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Vehicle Operations classifications or Motor Transport or Vehicle Operations specialty codes in the passenger transporting field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.Employees must possess or obtain a Class C non-commercial driver’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

2.Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which involve the operation of large passenger vehicles. Employees assigned these duties will be required to possess a driver’s license of the appropriate class valid in the State of Maryland.

3. Employees in this classification will be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, violence management and basic first aid training.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1.Employees may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employer with a telephone number where they can be reached.

2.Some positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the employee to operate a vehicle with a manual transmission.

3.Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
