POSITION DUTIES

The main purpose of this job is to direct the daily operations of both the food services and dietetics programs within the Nutrition Services Department and the supervision of employees responsible for each division. This position supervises and evaluates the qualifications/credentials of the Registered Dietitian II and III, and Food Administrator II. This position plans, organizes, evaluates, manages, and directs all activities within the department which includes provision of meals and clinical nutrition services for the hospital population. Provision of quality food service and nutritional care is an essential part of total patient care, the central mission of the hospital. This position ensures services delivered are consistent with recognized standards of care. This position directs and coordinates each program by establishing policies and procedures, approving revisions, and overseeing implementation. This position oversees and manages department budget and spending which includes the purchasing and inventory of food, supplies and equipment. This position evaluates the efficiency of operations of both divisions on an on-going basis by analyzing workflow (procedures and personnel) and achievement of established goals and standards.

Per the Amended Directive and Order Regarding Vaccination (MDH # 2023.04.18.03) issued by the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health, effective April 18, 2023, staff in all hospitals and residential facilities operated by the Maryland Department of Health or any local health department are required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. Staff includes, but is not limited to, regular and contractual employees, contractual staff, volunteers, and other state employees performing any duties at the facility. An individual may request an accommodation by providing appropriate and sufficient documentation for bona fide medical or religious reasons.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice under the licensing requirements for Nutritionists and Dietitians.

Experience: Five years of experience providing professional nutrition or dietetic services which includes three years in a residential or hospital setting and two years managing a clinical and administrative phase of a dietetic program. 

Notes: 

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the field of dietetics, nutrition, institutional administration or other related field may be substituted for up to one year of the required experience. 

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Dietitian and Nutritionist classifications or Dietitian and Nutritionist specialty codes in the Dietitian field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess:
- Experience in a psychiatric setting 
- Experience complying with standards set by the Joint Commission, centers for Medicare and Medicaid services, and Office of Healthcare Quality

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Dietitian/Nutritionist from the Maryland State Board of Dietetic Practice.

2. Candidates for positions in this classification must be registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) prior to completion of probationary period and must maintain a current registration during their time of employment. Candidates who are currently registered should submit proof of CDR registration with application.
