Introduction

The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) protects and restores the environment for the health and well-being of all Marylanders. MDE is seeking a seasoned leader to join the Department’s executive team as the Director of the Land and Materials Administration. Within the Department, the Land and Materials Administration (LMA) implements the mission across a wide purview: administering federal and state authorities with respect to land-based pollution control, legacy and emerging contaminants, solid waste, and others. LMA’s work includes implementation of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, the Surface Mining Control and Reclamation Act, the Oil Pollution Act, Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), and certain parts of the Clean Water Act, alongside state statutes covering solid waste, waste diversion, lead, and PFAS, among others.
