This Management Service position serves at the
Appointing Authority's pleasure.

The Department of Juvenile Services is searching
for passionate and compassionate education professionals to join our team at
our local government youth education facility. As a Principal, you will play a
pivotal role in transforming the lives of youth by providing them with the
guidance, support, and education they need to overcome obstacles and unlock
their full potential. This position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a
profound difference in the lives of vulnerable youth while contributing to the
betterment of our community.
This recruitment will be used to fill one
principal positions within the Alfred D. Noyes Choldren Center. Candidates with secondary
education Administrator I or II credentials.
POSITION DUTIES
1. Adaptative Leadership:
·
Mobilizing
Action: Guiding teams to act on, and
solve, complex, systemic problems together.
·
Adaptive vs. Technical Challenges: Differentiating between technical problems
(solvable by experts) and adaptive challenges, which require collective
learning, changing, and new ways of working.
· Strategic Situational Awareness: Demonstrating strong interpersonal skills
through personal introspection, collaboration, collegiality and adaptability to
change.
· Balancing Continuity and Change: Demonstrating a commitment to the values and
norms of the organization.
2. Educational Leadership:
·
Curriculum
Implementation: Oversee the implementation of
the academic and vocational programs in the JSEP curriculum.
·
Instructional
Leadership: Provide guidance and support
to teachers to enhance instructional practices and improve student learning
outcomes.
·
Student
Assessment: Monitor student progress
through assessments and data analysis to ensure educational goals are being
met.
·
Professional
Development: Facilitate ongoing
professional development for staff to ensure they are equipped with the latest
educational strategies and techniques.

Staff Management:
·
Hiring
and Training: Act as a leader in the
recruitment, hiring, and training of qualified staff who can deliver
high-quality education and support services.
·
Performance
Evaluation: Conduct regular performance
evaluations of staff, providing constructive feedback and professional
development opportunities.
·
Team
Collaboration: Foster a collaborative
environment among staff, encouraging teamwork and shared responsibility for
student success.
4.
Student Support:
·
Individualized
Education Plans (IEPs):
Ensure the development and implementation of IEPs for students with special
needs.
·
Counseling
Services: Coordinate with school
counseling and mental staff to provide mental health and emotional support
services to students.
·
Family
Engagement: Engage with families and
guardians to support student learning while in the JSEP schools and facilitate
successful reintegration post-release.
5.
Administrative Duties:
·
Compliance: Ensure the school complies with all relevant
local, state, and federal regulations in regard to Special Education and all
JSEP Board standards surrounding records, special education, instruction,
teacher certifications, and transition.
6. School Counseling Services:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Master’s degree in Educational Leadership,
Administration, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of teaching
experience and 3 years in an administrative or leadership role. Minimum of 3
years leading Special Education.

The preferred candidate for this position may
possess any of the following qualifications:
- Ability to motivate staff, students and families around the vision of the school.
- Clear and effective communication skills for diverse audiences including students, staff and families.
- Well-organized, ability to balance competing priorities and multi-task.
- Passion for developing staff’s instructional and leadership capacities.
- Leadership style that encourages teamwork and collaboration to support excellent instruction.
- Previous experience in an alternative or juvenile services education setting
