Introduction

Maryland Public Television, commonly known as MPT, is a public television network that broadcasts throughout the entire state of Maryland and the District of Columbia and into parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is Maryland's only statewide broadcaster. Headquartered in Owings Mills, MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and is a producer of both locally and nationally distributed TV programs and digital content.

Main Purpose of Job

The HR Coordinator & Compliance Specialist provides essential administrative, transactional, and project coordination support to the Vice President of Human Resources and the broader HR team. This role functions as an administrative gatekeeper, ensuring all daily data transactions, performance evaluation cycles, benefits logistics, and leave management activities are strictly aligned with employment and labor laws in addition to company policies. This position will be operating in a fast-paced environment, requiring an exceptional balance of administrative execution and technology savviness, event coordination, project tracking, technical proficiency across all aspects of Workday, administrative coordination of leave benefits, and uncompromised discretion in handling confidential personnel information and files, while incorporating human resources knowledge and compliance regulations all aspects of the position.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Facilitate onboarding and orientation activities
  • Execute and audit personnel transactions in Workday
  • Assist with Workday timekeeping functions in accordance with compliance protocols such as attendance and leave eligibility
  • Guide staff through benefits enrollments, benefit changes and available resources
  • Assist with the leave management process to include providing education, monitoring and tracking the usage
  •  Monitoring and tracking online performance evaluation cycles and provide troubleshooting assistance to staff
  • Plan and execute HR sponsored events
  • Manage assigned projects and communicate event milestones, status updates
  • Troubleshooting HR processes and developing best practices

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, PLUS a  minimum of 2 years of dedicated corporate human resources experience. o OR a minimum of 6  years of direct human resources administrative experience as a substitute for the four-year degree
Note: Experience may be substituted on a year-by-year basis for up to four years of education from an accredited College or University in a related field

  • Customer-Service-Oriented Communication: Possesses strong interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex HR policies clearly, patiently, and professionally to diverse employee groups
  • Tech-Agile Problem Solving: Proactive in identifying system bottlenecks and eager to troubleshoot or improve HR workflows rather than simply following existing patterns.
  • Cultural & Mission Alignment: Passion for the public mission of MPT and an interest in supporting the diverse workforce that powers it.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification will be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
