The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. Main Purpose of Job
The Deputy Commissioner of Correction serves as a senior executive leader responsible for providing operational leadership, administrative oversight, strategic planning, and organizational direction for the Central Region’s administrative and support services divisions within the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. This position ensures that all regional support functions operate efficiently, effectively, and in compliance with departmental policies, legal mandates, fiscal requirements, and correctional best practices.
The Deputy Commissioner functions as a principal advisor to the Commissioner/Executive Regional Director and collaborates closely with executive leadership to support institutional operations, organizational readiness, and long-term correctional management objectives. The position oversees critical administrative functions including finance, human resources, facility maintenance, information technology, procurement and supply services, food services, medical operations, and statistical/research activities.
The Deputy Commissioner also assumes the duties and responsibilities of the Commissioner/Executive Regional Director during periods of absence and may serve as the executive lead during emergency operations, critical incidents, or statewide initiatives impacting institutional operations.
POSITION DUTIES
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in corrections, criminal justice, criminology, social work, or a related field.
Experience: Eight (8) years of experience supervising or managing in a correctional setting, to include three (3) years performing correctional management duties as a Warden.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute additional years of experience performing correctional management duties for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
2. Thirty graduate credit hours from an accredited college or university in the fields of corrections, criminal justice, criminology, social work, or a related field may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience.
