Introduction

Maryland Public Television, commonly known as MPT, is a public television network that broadcasts throughout the entire state of Maryland and the District of Columbia and into parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is Maryland's only statewide broadcaster. Headquartered in Owings Mills, MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) and is a producer of both locally and nationally distributed TV programs and digital content.

Main Purpose of Job

Maryland Public Television (MPT) is seeking a proactive and skilled Computer Network Technician to join our IT team. This position will be responsible for providing exceptional helpdesk support to our users. Technical expertise and a customer-focused approach play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of MPT’s IT services.

POSITION DUTIES

· Serve as the first point of contact for all IT-related issues and inquiries from employees. 

· Respond to helpdesk tickets, troubleshoot issues, and escalate complex problems to appropriate team members when necessary. 

· Required to provide timely and effective resolution of hardware, software, and network-related problems. Including remote support and onsite visits to workstations as requested.

· Assist in setting up and configuring user workstations, peripherals, and mobile devices, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary software and configurations. 

· Handle the deployment and configuration of phones for new users. 

· Offer remote support and conduct on-site visits as required to resolve technical issues. 

· Ensure support processes, tools, and procedures are followed to enable efficient issue documentation, tracking, and resolution, meeting our operational service standards. 

· Oversee the management, operation, and security of the networked Cisco VoIP phone system used at Maryland Public Television. 

· Assist the Lead Network Engineer with network equipment, ensuring its proper functioning and reliability. 

· Software Installation and Updates: Participate in software installation and updates to keep our network and systems up-to-date and secure. 

· Utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) for technical development, data management, strategic implementation and ethical oversight

· Be a self-starter who can manage projects independently in a high paced environment  

· Manage the inventory of software licenses, software applications, hardware components and IT supplies.

· Process required paperwork for the purchase of new computer software and hardware, ensuring vendors meet or exceed specifications. 

· This position is eligible for hybrid teleworking with most days in the workplace.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Five (5) years’ experience in providing hands-on helpdesk support and troubleshooting IT-related issues such as: setting up and configuring user workstations, peripherals, and mobile devices; responding to and resolving help desk calls from computer users troubleshooting computer equipment for various purposes like Network issues, data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, database, or problem analysis and ongoing user support; or coordinating system development and implementation, and training users on the functionality of applications systems for a State agency or statewide systems housed on mainframe or large client server platforms.


Note:

 1. Candidates may substitute up to four years of college from an accredited college or university in information technology, management information systems or other information technology related fields, with coursework in information systems and two (2) years of hands-on experience in either setting up and configuring user workstations, peripherals, and mobile devices; responding to and resolving help desk calls from computer users troubleshooting computer equipment for various purposes like Network issues, data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, database, or problem analysis and ongoing user support; or coordinating system development and implementation, and training users on the functionality of applications systems. This experience should be related to agency or statewide systems housed on mainframe or large client server platforms.

 2. Candidates may substitute two (2) years of college (60 credit hours) from an accredited college or university and two (1) One year of hands-on experience in: either setting up and configuring user workstations, peripherals, and mobile devices; responding to and resolving help desk calls from computer users troubleshooting computer equipment for various purposes like Network issues, data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, database, or problem analysis and ongoing user support; or coordinating system development and implementation, and training users on the functionality of applications systems. This experience should be related to agency or statewide systems housed on mainframe or large client server platforms.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

· Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or a related field

· Familiarity with VoIP phone systems, preferably with experience in administration (i.e., assign desktop phones and set up voicemails). 

· Strong problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail. 

· Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. 

· Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. 

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. 

· Available Days, Night & Weekends. 

· Detailed Oriented. 

· Certification in any of these, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) is a big plus.

· Experience should be related to agency or statewide systems housed on mainframe or large client server platforms.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

        Employees in this position are required to obtain certifications in , CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) within six (6)  months from the time of appointment to the position.
