Main Purpose of Job
Maryland’s Interagency Commission on School Construction (IAC) is recruiting a project manager eager to use their skills to positively impact educational facilities across the State. The ideal candidate is an architect, engineer, or construction professional with experience in the management and oversight of public facility projects with strong communication skills and a commitment to public service for an essential position at a pivotal time for this independent State agency. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to positively impact public school students in the State. Candidates should be excited to take on a new challenge and to actively participate in making changes that will benefit every student in Maryland. Incumbents will typically work Monday through Friday on a hybrid remote/inperson basis.
POSITION DUTIES
The Project Manager guides and supports all assigned Local Education Agencies’ (LEAs’) facilities planning, design, and construction activities to help each assigned LEA maintain an educationally sufficient and fiscally sustainable portfolio of facilities. Additionally, this position manages special projects as needed to support IAC efforts regarding decarbonization, including acting as the contract manager supervising agreements with other entities, as well as recommending life cycle cost analysis standards, and facilities portfolio planning focused on reducing the future cost of ownership of school facilities.
This position visits existing schools and construction projects, and advises LEAs in all matters related to school facilities — from concept planning to construction and through maintenance and operations (M&O). This advisory position assists in the development of strategies for ensuring safe, healthy, and educationally sufficient school facilities including their capital and operational funding, facility management procedures, proper M&O staffing ratios, and the entire facility management process. This position will work regularly with all departments within the IAC on analysis and the development of critical new processes as needed to support the anticipated requirements for Statewide decarbonization.
