The Maryland Department of Labor is currently accepting applications from qualified candidates for an ABE/Adult Secondary Education Teacher position within the Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning (DWDAL).

Main Purpose of Job

To create a classroom learning environment in which assigned inmate students make measurable progress toward identified educational goals as indicated by the successful completion of requirements for the Maryland Certificate of Achievement in Adult Literacy and Life Skills and/or Maryland High School Diploma.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide instruction in a variety of methods to include whole group, small group, and individualized instruction consistent with the approved curriculm.
  • Plan and organize time, in advance, to provide for effective instruction.
  • Use informal and formal assessment tools to provide reliable and valid appraisal of student skills achievement.
  • Maintain and submit program and instructional records in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Create a physical and interpersonal climate that is conducive to learning.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education.

Experience: None.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

1. Three (3) years of classroom teaching experience;
2. Experience providing instructions to adult learners.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Teachers in State operated school programs are required to acquire and maintain certification to teach in the State of Maryland per Education Article, Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2). Applicants recommended for appointment will be required to complete an Authorization and Verification of Credentials. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (MD Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to MD Labor/DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
