Main Purpose of Job

The primary purpose of this position is to assist the principal in the administration, planning and leadership of the Catonsville Educational Center (CEC). This position also assists the Principal in assuring that CEC is in compliance with federal and state laws and regulations governing special education and treatment programs for emotionally disturbed individuals, including the Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), the Maryland State Board of Education Bylaws (COMAR 13A.05.01), and Joint Commission licensing requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore, MD 21201-2595.

Experience: Four years of experience providing classroom instruction to students.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Human Resources classifications or Education and Training, Human Resources Officer, Instructor, or Education Officer specialty codes in the education or training field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess:
  • Experience leading and directing other educational personnel.
  • Experience with making decisions in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience working under pressure and in crisis situations.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Educational administrators in State operated school programs are required to acquire and maintain certification in the State of Maryland per Education Article, Section 6-101 of the Annotated Code of Maryland and Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) 13A.12.01.03B(2). Applicants recommended for appointment will be requested to complete an Authorization and Verification of Credentials. Information on requirements for certification and procedures for application may be obtained from the Maryland State Board of Education, 200 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore, MD. 21201-2595.

The evaluation may be a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Please report all related education, experience, dates and hours of work. Clearly indicate your college degree and major on your application, if applicable. For education obtained outside the U.S., any job offer will be contingent on the candidate providing an evaluation for equivalency by a foreign credential evaluation service prior to starting employment (and may be requested prior to interview).
