Main Purpose of Job

The State Treasurer’s Office Internship Program proudly welcomes internship talent at every stage of development, from students studying in academic organizations, trainees beginning their professional journey, early career individuals building their skills, to legacy leadership talent eager to transition their skills to public service. Together, these perspectives create a dynamic and diverse environment for learning, collaborating, and future leadership. Our program provides a unique opportunity to gain educational and practical experience, under the purview of public sector treasury experts, in the areas of business, finance, insurance, banking, investment, debt management, and information technology. We promise a specialized learning experience and skill development that promotes growth in your future career.

The State Treasurer’s Office has internship possibilities in the following divisions:

Ø Budget and Accounting: Provides daily fiscal support for agency operations and financial administration for statewide programs controlled by the State Treasurer .

Ø Information Technology: Provides technical support for Microsoft based operating systems as well as specialized agency portal services and financial platforms; implements technical projects to transition and streamline legacy processes to modernized platforms.

Ø Maryland 529: Manages two statewide tax-sheltered programs for college savings and saving accounts for people with disabilities.

Ø Debt Management: Oversees State debt issuance and payment, develops low-cost funding strategies and leasing resources, and orchestrates sales of municipal bonds.

Ø Operations and Administration: Coordinates and oversees mission critical responsibilities, procedures, systems, and procurements necessary to carry out the agency’s statutory obligations.

Ø Treasury Management: Comprised of Banking and Investment units, Treasury Management controls the State’s banking relationships and services, manages the State’s cash flow, and invests State funds to meet the State’s financial needs.

Ø Insurance:  Directs the State’s Insurance Program which is comprised of both self-insurance and commercial policies, and manages claims and litigation under the Maryland Tort Claims Act.

Ø Executive: Provides executive level support for the Treasurer’s various responsibilities including public and legislative policy, boards and commissions, and other Constitutional or Statutory duties.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Applicants must be willing to work in the Annapolis area. 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Candidates will be subject to a background investigation to include credit, criminal and civil courts history.
