The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. This position is a Management Services position. 
The incumbent will work at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

POSITION DUTIES

Provides support to the Executive Director of the Inmate Grievance Office, assuming primary responsibility for the preliminary review phase of the inmate grievance process and developing and maintaining management information systems to provide meaningful feedback concerning inmate grievances internally and to correctional administrators.

 

Provides additional support to the Executive Director by managing certain routine functions of the agency and supervising agency staff. In the absence of the Executive Director, this position responds to the needs of the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of DPSCS.

 

Develops and implements program research and management information systems to provide useful feedback internally to the Agency and externally to correctional administrators. Monitors the IGO Case Tracking System and its use by Agency staff. Assists the Executive Director in maintaining and analyzing statistics for the Managing For Results program.

 

As a designee of the Executive Director, exercises the authority to make final administrative decisions dismissing appropriate inmate grievances as without merit, subject to judicial review. Recommends that appropriate inmate grievances be referred to the Office of Administrative Hearings for hearing. Exercises judgment in identifying appropriate grievances for possible resolution prior to hearing and works closely with correctional administrators to achieve resolution of appropriate grievances prior to hearing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in public administration, criminal justice, business administration, law, or a related field.

 

Experience: Have at least five (5) years of professional experience in public administration, corrections, legal review, grievance administration, or a related governmental environment.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience managing a grievance or complaint resolution process.
  • Experience supporting an Executive Director or Senior level employee with managing agency operations.

· Personal Leave - new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date)
