Introduction


The Maryland State Retirement Agency is the administrator of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System (“System”). The System is a defined benefit retirement system covering governmental employees within the State of Maryland. It’s composed of twelve (12) separate retirement and pension systems with over 50 different rule sets. The System has over 397,000 participants (customers), including 192,000 members who are actively employed and participating in the System, 165,000 payees who receive a monthly payment from the System, and 40,000 vested members who are no longer actively employed but have earned a benefit that will become payable at a future date.  We are seeking to recruit a Director, Systems Development position.

Located in Baltimore’s Central Business District, SRPS offers a purpose-driven workplace with modern amenities, including panoramic city and harbor views, renovated common areas, upgraded elevators, and an on-site café. 

This position is open to all and perfect for college students during their summer break. The position is expected to last May-August.

Main Purpose of Job

The primary purpose of this position is to provide administrative and clerical support to Agency staff during the peak workload period from May through August. During these months, the Agency is responsible for closing databases and files for the prior fiscal year, preparing and opening files for the new fiscal year beginning July 1, 2027, and managing a significant increase in operational activity. This includes processing high volumes of new enrollments, July 1st retirements, and refunds for former members.

POSITION DUTIES

Position duties include but not limited to the following:
  • Provide administrative and clerical support during the Agency’s peak workload period, which coincides with the Teachers’ Pension System retirements effective July 1st and the Agency’s fiscal year-end on June 30th.
  • Review incoming forms to ensure they are fully and accurately completed by members and retirees of the Pension System.
  • Enter data into Excel spreadsheets for reconciliation and tracking purposes.
  • Prepare and generate letters using Microsoft Word.
  • Review reports for accuracy, completeness, and proper documentation.
  • File pending or completed work and assist with purging older Agency records in accordance with retention guidelines.
  • Maintain accuracy and timeliness in all assigned tasks to support the Agency’s mission and operational requirements.
  • Use Agency-issued equipment, including laptops, copiers, scanners, and other standard office devices.
  • Work overtime when authorized and based on assignment needs.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with Agency staff and customers.
  • Complete assigned tasks thoroughly within established deadlines.
  • Communicate effectively using clear verbal and written communication skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred candidates will posses:
Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Finance, Management, Public Administration, or related fields from an accredited college or university.
