The Office of the Comptroller of Maryland is seeking an experienced, strategic, and collaborative leader to serve as the Director of Government Affairs. The Director of Government Affairs serves as the lead for all government affairs activities within the Office of the Comptroller and is responsible for developing, coordinating, and executing strategies that advance the agency’s legislative and policy priorities at the state, local, and federal levels. The role oversees the department’s strategic state and intergovernmental operations and ensures alignment between internal policy objectives and external governmental engagement.
The Director plays a critical role in shaping organizational culture, strengthening accountability, and establishing clear systems for planning, coordination, and follow-through. A successful candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates a deep understanding of government processes, and brings strong communication and relationship‑building skills.
