POSITION DUTIES
- Provide non-evaluative, job-embedded coaching to strengthen mathematics instruction aligned with Maryland's Mathematics Policy.
- Support teachers in delivering systematic, mathematics instruction that guides students’ development of conceptual understanding and procedural fluency.
- Deliver professional learning aligned to evidence-based mathematics instruction and HQIM implementation.
- Model systematic mathematics instructional practices through co-teaching, lesson modeling, and elbow coaching.
- Conduct observations and walkthroughs and provide targeted, specific feedback.
- Support teachers in administering and interpreting standard aligned assessments to identify and implement appropriate interventions.
- Lead collaborative planning for unit and lesson internalization focused on math content.
- Document evidence of mathematics instruction implementation utilizing the MSDE tools.
- Engage in ongoing professional learning in mathematics research, instruction, and coaching.
- Collaborate with MSDE leadership, Regional Coordinator of Mathematics coaching, and state coaches to align mathematics initiatives across schools and regions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Candidates may substitute a Bachelor's Degree with 7 years of the specified content experience to satisfy the Minimum Qualifications noted above.
- Candidates may substitute the possession of a Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to the position option for one year of the required experience.
- The required field of education and experience are unique for each option and are established by MSDE in accordance with Education Article, Section 2-104 of the Annotated Code of Maryland. The specific education and experience qualifications for each position are on record in the Human Resource Management Branch of the Division of Business Services.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Education Program classifications or Education Program specialty codes in the Education field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with Kindergarten through 8th Grade mathematics programs and curriculum.
- Experience in teaching environments as an Instructional Coach, Mathematics Department Chair, or Administrator that supported Mathematics Instruction.
- Experience aligning Instruction to Maryland College and Career Ready Standards and Frameworks for Mathematics and Knowledge of college and career readiness pathways, standards, trends, regulations, policies, and issues related to mathematics and STEM fields of study.
- Experience implementing, monitoring, evaluating, and providing high quality and service level-based support and technical assistance for education programs including professional learning aligned to research-based math instructional practices.
- Experience collaborating with diverse communities and organizations for the purpose of implementing programs and strategies. and developing and delivering research based and best-in-class professional development programs.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires travel throughout the State of Maryland and throughout designated Counties to support teachers within individual school(s) and oversee the effective implementation of Mathematics initiatives.
