Introduction

The Office of Security Management within the Department of Information Technology (DoIT) provides State agencies and Local government entities with a common statewide strategy for secure, effective, and technically sound use of the information technology resources.

This team is responsible for the establishment of Security Policies, Security Guidance, and Security Awareness, and is a source of IT security information for State agencies and providing assistance to local government entities to help improve their cybersecurity preparedness.

The Department of Information Technology is seeking a Senior Cyber Platforms Engineer.

POSITION DUTIES

The Senior Cyber Platforms Engineer serves as the lead technical resource responsible for the comprehensive designing, engineering, implementation, administration and optimization, of existing and emerging cybersecurity platforms within OSM's portfolio. The effective management of these platforms is vital to the state's security posture and its ability to respond to cyber threats. This role requires deep technical expertise, hands-on administration, strategic platform planning, and mentorship.

Position Duties: 

Platform Engineering & Lifecycle Management  
  • Leads the technical design, implementation, configuration, administration, and ongoing maintenance of the state’s cybersecurity platforms (e.g., Reverse Proxy/WAF/DNS, MDR, SIEM) across the enterprise.
  • Performs advanced administration and optimization of platform performance, availability, and scalability for assigned platforms.
  • Performs capacity planning, performance tuning, patching, and upgrades.
  • Contributes technical expertise to the development and execution of the Cyber Platforms team roadmap and technology lifecycle planning. 
Operational Support & Technical Escalation  
  • Serves as the primary escalation point for troubleshooting complex technical issues related to platform functionality, data ingestion, and platform / agent deployments.
  • Partners with DoIT, vendors, and agency stakeholders to deploy, implement, and improve operation of the state’s cyber platforms.
  • Supports design and implementation of platforms use cases as part of regular operation.
  • Participates in incident response efforts as a subject matter expert and administrator of assigned platforms.  
Governance, Compliance, & Documentation
  • Develops, maintains, and enforces standard operating procedures (SOPs), technical configuration documents, diagrams, and knowledge articles for all managed platforms.
  • Implements, manages, and audits platform-level security controls, role-based access controls (RBAC), and system logging in accordance with DoIT policies and best practices.
  • Ensures platform configurations and operations support GRC-identified compliance requirements (e.g., NIST frameworks, best practices, state policies).
Leadership & Vendor Relationships
  • Provides technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to other engineers within the Cyber Platforms team.
  • Interfaces with platform vendors for technical support, roadmap discussions, feature requests/reviews, and license management.
  • Stays current with cybersecurity trends, platform advancements, vendor updates, and industry best practices.
  • Assists in developing technical requirements for activities related to platform acquisition, renewal, or expansion.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.

Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of experience in cybersecurity, specifically focused on the design, implementation, and administration of enterprise-level cybersecurity platforms (such as SIEM, WAF, MDR, or DNS Security). Experience must include hands-on technical administration, performance tuning, and troubleshooting of complex security tools in a large-scale environment. 

Note: Additional years of experience in systems engineering or cybersecurity administration may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in one or more of the following:

  • Strategic Engineering: Experience in Capacity Planning and Technology Lifecycle Management, including developing technical roadmaps and leading platform upgrades or migrations in a cloud or hybrid environment.
  • Cross-Functional SME Collaboration: Demonstrated success acting as a Platform Subject Matter Expert to interface with external stakeholders such as Infrastructure, AppDev, and Agency/Customer IT teams to resolve ingestion issues, integrate new data sources, and provide technical guidance on platform-specific use cases.
