Introduction

We at the Potomac Center/SETT facility provide quality person-centered support to adults with intellectual disabilities at our campus in Hagerstown, Maryland. Our aim is to partner with the community to help our residents achieve their goals.

The Potomac Center is a 62-bed licensed Intermediate Care Facility (ICF). This program focuses on using therapeutic interventions to empower residents as they learn the skills they need to successfully return to community living.

The Secure Evaluation and Therapeutic Treatment (SETT) Program, located within the Potomac Center campus, is a 32-bed licensed Forensic Residential Center that provides services to individuals with intellectual disabilities and court involvement within a safe and secure environment. The program provides assistance as they resolve their court involvement and work toward transitioning to a less secured environment. The SETT utilizes active treatment as well as providing evaluation, assessment and competency attainment education.

Main Purpose of Job

This position is a specialized DDA serving as the “Scheduler” for direct care of Potomac Center and Secure Evaluation & Therapeutic Treatment (SETT). This positions principal responsibilities would be to develop the direct care schedule, complete daily 24-hour assignment sheets for direct care, approve/deny leave requests, man the DDA phones for both facilities for call outs and adjust the schedule accordingly by finding adequate coverage, schedule resident guest visits, ensure appropriate staffing on all shifts and cycles, accompany trips off-grounds, tracking change of shift and cycle requests, tracking direct care leave balances, provide direct care with timesheet logs, notify direct care and supervisors of training needs and ensure adequate coverage, ensure fair and equitable overtime and rotation practices, and all other duties assigned to the scheduler.

This position will also be responsible for DDA responsibilities such as: helping each person served meet their personal outcomes; full compliance with applicable policies and procedures relating to both resident care as well as identified outcomes and measures in place in furtherance of same; provision of quality services in such representative areas as equipment utilization, data collection, personal hygiene, and programming; and matching newly-acquired skills to enhance growth and development of persons served per their Individualized Plan (IP) goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Three years of experience providing direct client services in a developmental disability or similar behavior modification setting.

Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute the completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university with 15 credit hours in health or human services, education or the behavioral sciences and one year of experience providing direct client services in a developmental disability or similar behavior modification setting for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of an Associate of Arts or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in the treatment of developmental disabilities in a mental health or closely related curriculum including a supervised clinical practicum in a developmental disability or similar behavior modification setting for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Hospital Corpsman classifications or Health Care Specialist and Medical Services specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:
  • Experience developing schedules for multiple shifts.
  • Experience approving leave and knowledge and experience with leave regulations and laws.
  • Experience tracking and entering data.
  • Experience utilizing spreadsheets to show trends.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current certificate as a Nursing Assistant from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215. Persons appointed to a position in this classification without certification as a Nursing Assistant must successfully complete a Board of Nursing approved nursing assistant training program and receive certification as a Nursing Assistant within six months from date of hire prior to performing delegated nursing tasks. Appointees who fail to successfully complete this requirement will not be retained in these positions.

2. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete training in and maintain current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.
