LOCATION OF POSITION
Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this
position is to provide high quality, developmentally
appropriate, comprehensive pediatric care to adolescent youth who are
residing at DJS facilities. This position provides youth with
preventative, acute, chronic, and specialty health care services to
protect, promote, and advance their overall health and prepare them for
success upon return to the community.
Job Duties:
Provision of on-site
healthcare: Complete history & physical examinations, provide acute
& chronic healthcare, & manage youth with medical conditions such as
diabetes, seizure disorder, sickle cell, heart disease, opioid use
disorder, orthopedic injuries, infectious diseases, physical disabilities,
etc. Admit youth to the infirmary and refer to the ER and specialty care
as needed. Write orders and document in the medical chart.
Review Medical Records: Review
and sign-off on immunization records, past medical records, referral
reports, results of laboratory testing, diagnostic imaging, and other studies
(e.g., EEGs, EKGs), admission nursing assessments, 30 day reviews,
and discharge summaries. Assist with writing discharge summaries as
needed. Write orders, update the problem list, and provide care based on
review of medical records.
Meetings, consultations, and
discussion with other healthcare providers: Attend weekly Special Needs
meetings as able, discuss cases with specialists and ER as
needed, collaborate with the DJS interdisciplinary team including nursing
and behavioral health staff, psychiatric providers, dentist, optometrist,
dietitian, physical therapist, residential & case management staff,
pharmacist, and other physicians and nurse practitioners.
Communication with parents or
guardian: As needed, call parents/guardians to obtain or share medical
information about youth.
On-call services: Be available
by cell phone and email to nursing staff in case needed to clarify orders.
Based on availability, assist in provision of 24/7, on-call medical services
by telephone for youth at DJS facilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Doctorate a degree in medicine from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Required for certification in an area of medical specialization by an American Medical Association Specialty Board.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Applicants for this classification must be certified by an American Medical Association Specialty Board in an area of medical specialization.
2. Applicants for this classification must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application.

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
