POSITION DUTIES
Are you a strategic thinker with a passion for public finance and operational excellence? The Office of the Comptroller of Maryland is seeking a seasoned leader to serve as Deputy Director of Budget and Finance for the Office of Administration & Finance.
As the Deputy Director of Budget and Finance you will manage key financial functions, partner with executive leadership, and help drive data-informed decisions that support statewide operations. What You’ll Lead:
- Invoice payments for the Comptroller of Maryland, Board of Public Works and Register of Wills.
- Financial reporting, expenditure tracking, and budget projections.
- Capital grant and loan disbursements for the Board of Public Works.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide assistance for the development of the agency’s multi-million-dollar operating budget.
- Review and analyze monthly budget projections to ensure alignment with program goals.
- Establish and maintain the agency’s account code structure.
- Provide assistance for the fiscal year-end closeout.
- Supervise the Accounts Payable and Grant Management units.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university.
Experience: Five (5) years of professional progressively responsible experience in accounting or budgeting.

equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation
service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States, please
submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S.
equivalence evaluating members identified at http://www.naces.org/members.html.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A master’s degree or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
- Strong working knowledge of the State of Maryland budget and financial systems and applications; government finance procedures and standards; accounting principles and practices; and business administration
- Strong oral and written communication, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to lead, mentor, coach, and develop the team; foster collaboration and accountability; and manage performance
