Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of the IT Technical Support Specialist I is to keep the agency's computer systems running efficiently. As an intermediate role, this person maintains and updates the operating systems on multi-tasking computers. They handle standard maintenance independently and collaborate with supervisors on more complex system modifications, occasionally responding to after-hours technical emergencies.
To support the mission of the agency, the role entirely around operational readiness. The technical support directly enables the agency to mobilize forces and coordinate disaster relief without critical delays.
POSITION DUTIES
Duties include but are not limited to:
* Lead lower-level staff.
* Implement, administer, and enforce written IT policies, procedures, and standards, ensuring compliance.
* Oversee the selection, development, implementation, and operation of IT
services.
* Provide input,
research, recommendations for updates to IT policies and procedures; review
drafts.
* Submit
network service requests to DoIT intake.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: One year of experience maintaining and modifying operating systems for multipurpose, multi-tasking computers.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems or other information technology related field to include course work in machine or assembler computer languages, and operating system and data communication technology for multipurpose, multi-tasking computers for the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute experience operating multipurpose, multi-tasking computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining a tape library to process data on multipurpose, multi-tasking computer systems; or converting data from project specifications by developing program code using third generation computer programming languages; or designing, developing and maintaining communications networks on a year-for-year basis for a high school education.
3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems or other information technology related field to include course work in machine or assembler computer languages, and operating system and data communication technology for multipurpose, multi-tasking computers for the required experience.
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Computer Systems Operations classifications or Computer Systems Operations specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Experience leading lower level staff.
2. Experience implementing, administering and enforcing IT policies, procedures and standards.
3. Experience providing IT services for a State or Federal agency.
LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION
Must be a current Maryland Military Department IT employee.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which
require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties
will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the
State of Maryland with less than 5 points to operate a state vehicle.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached.
