POSITION DUTIES

Volunteer Activities Coordinator III is the full level of work developing and planning a comprehensive volunteer services program in a State facility.  Additionally, the incumbent directs and supervises the activities of all volunteers and educates the community to the need for volunteers and volunteer programs for the facilities. Employees in this classification supervise may lead support staff, students and volunteers assigned to the volunteer activities program.

The duties include, but are not limited to:

PLANNING & DIRECTING VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS 

● Recruits, trains and supervises volunteers, interns, staff and volunteer visitors who enter the facilities, including but not limited to conducting background checks, interviews, coordination of paperwork, preparing entries and providing security and program orientation.

● Recruitments and coordinates student interns including ongoing contact between agencies and college liaison.

● Gives amendment recommendations for volunteer directives and processes and establishes volunteer handouts to provide guidance to new volunteers.

● Serves as point of contact for initial volunteers’ complaint, issues, and inquires.

 

RELATED ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
● Handles special administrative assignments for the facility and outside agencies requiring knowledge of regulations, policies, institutional procedures and program goals.

● Serves on committees to design evaluative tools, review policies or develop initiatives using sound management and industry practices
● Prepares periodic performance evaluations of volunteers
● Writes reports, correspondence, newsletters and other documents regarding volunteer programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Seven years of experience involving planning, coordinating and evaluating volunteer activities in a state facility, institution or community-based program.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, including 30credit hours in social sciences, journalism, public relations or a related field and three years of experience involving planning, coordinating and evaluating volunteer activities in a state facility, institution or community-based program for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of graduate level education in social sciences, journalism, public relations or a  related field from an accredited college or university at a rate of 30 credit hours for each year for up to six years of the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

2. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete training and maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification will be required to provide the facility with a telephone number at which they can be reached.

· Personal Leave - new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date)

· Annual Leave - ten (10) days of accumulated annual leave per year
· Sick Leave - fifteen (15) days of accumulated sick leave per year 
· Parental Leave - up to sixty (60) days of paid parental leave upon the birth or adoption of a child 
· Holidays - State employees also celebrate at least twelve (12) holidays per year

· Pension - State employees earn credit towards a retirement pension
