Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to serve as the Prevention Supervisor under the supervision of the STEPS Program Manager, coordinating the Anne Arundel County Department of Health’s Bureau of Behavioral Health substance use and misuse prevention initiatives. This position will act as a second to the Program Manager, assisting with leadership duties and operational oversight when needed. This position will provide direct supervision and administrative oversight to a diverse team of Prevention Specialists and Coordinators, including the Fatal Overdose Review Team (FORT) Coordinator, Opioid Misuse Prevention Program (OMPP) Coordinator, Cannabis Prevention Specialist, Youth Substance Misuse Coordinator and the Bilingual Family Skills Supervisor. This position will ensure that all prevention activities utilize evidence-based models and are implemented with 100% fidelity. This position will ensure compliance with federal and state grant conditions, manage the timely submission of required data and reports and facilitate community outreach and education trainings for schools, agencies and parents.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling, or a related field.  

Experience: Six years professional experience in health services, three years must have been in Health Services professional clinical or administrative services in areas other than Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities or Addictions and two years must have been at the managerial or supervisory level.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree or a Doctorate degree in a health or human services field from an accredited college or university for up to two years of the required general experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus an additional year of professional experience in health services for the required education.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Health Services Administration specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:

1. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English to support diverse community outreach and oversee bilingual programming.

2. Experience with grant writing, monitoring and tracking complex budgets to ensure compliance with state or federal conditions of award.

3. Experience and familiarity with the SAMHSA Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) model for planning and implementing community-based prevention programs.
