POSITION DUTIES
The Content Moderator works for the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS), Intelligence and Investigative Division’s (IID), Analytical and Technical unit. The position supports the DPSCS correctional facility tablet/communication program for incarcerated individuals (II) in our custody. The Content Moderator reviews text messaging, photographs, and audio content IIs received and sent. Reviews content received and sent by II’s through their state-issued tablets, that may be deemed inappropriate. Screen content for messages that contain sensitive and explicit material involving expressions that are discriminatory, offensive, abhorrent, or graphic. Monitors II calls for safety and security concerns, as well as, investigatory pertinent information. Escalates questionable findings to the Chief or supervisor.
- Responsible for monitoring electronic communications through the Department’s II’s tablet and kiosk vendor applications. Reviews and analyzes explicit and extremely sensitive content; sometimes involving graphic and disturbing content that may be egregious in nature.
- Maintains a neutral nondiscriminatory mindset while reviewing visual and auditory content that may be explicit, offensive, and abhorrent. Delineates between potential inappropriate/harmful content and harmless situations. Channels concerns to the supervising analyst.
- Maintains professionalism and confidentiality when making decisions and recommendations regarding communication, while upholding the Department’s standards and policies. Helps to identify and screen for potentially inappropriate and harmful materials; including, but not limited to words, phrases, statements, and images that are in breach and noncompliance with State standards and policies.
- Maintains focused attention to detail to stay vigilant for security concerns and threats. Accurately and efficiently make decisions regarding the distribution of information at a high standard. Ensures focused attention to reading content of varying lengths.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One year of administrative staff or professional work.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
