POSITION DUTIES

The Comptroller of Maryland has an exciting opportunity for a Print Shop Manager. The Print Shop Manager leads the agency’s in-house print operations as well as:

  • managing internal print requests 
  • preparing files for print using professional design software 
  • producing high-quality printed materials 
  • assembling official ceremonial certificates on behalf of the Comptroller.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four years of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

  1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.
  2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
  3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
  4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for- year basis for the required experience.
** For education obtained outside of the U.S. you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States, please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalence evaluating members identified at http://www.naces.org/members.html.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two years of experience in print production or print shop operations, including handling job intake, scheduling, or operating print/finishing equipment.
  • Experience operating digital production printers or related print equipment in a professional or institutional setting.
  • Experience maintaining production logs, tracking job status, or managing job workflow in a print or production environment as well as proficiency operating digital production printers, wide‑format printers, and finishing equipment such as cutters, laminators, binders, and folders.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing print‑ready files using Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop, supported by a portfolio or work samples.
  • Strong writing and editing skills with experience drafting or contributing to internal newsletters, announcements, or informational materials as well as strong communication, organizational, and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven production environment.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to proofread written content, verify accuracy, and ensure polished presentation—especially for official ceremonial certificates and agency materials.
  • Experience balancing and delivering multiple high‑priority print jobs simultaneously while maintaining quality and accuracy.
