Main Purpose of Job

Serves on a team of Member Support Specialists responsible for providing the full range of pre-service, in-service, and post-service support for Members enrolled in the Maryland Corps/Service Year Option Program (inclusive of the Climate Corps Program). Specific responsibilities of the Member Support Specialists include: supporting the selection and matching of candidates and host sites, including quality assurance testing of online application platforms; leading a team of direct support staff to resolve personal and professional member issues, provide information and resources to address member needs and interests, and answer program-related questions; supporting the planning,logistics, and on-site support of DSCI hosted in-person professional development events; answering member questions about community resources, program requirements, and other issues during the year of service via phone, email and chat; processing changes in enrollment, close of service for the member; tracking and monitoring various metrics to ensure stakeholders adhere to program compliance standards; and develop, design, and implement program policy and procedures and identify opportunities for enhanced efficiencies to improve operations and the overall program experience for members and host sites. Independently performs assigned duties within defined guidelines and seeks assistance of team leader in the event of unusual or precedent cases. Day-to-day work is supported and monitored by a team leader and overall quality/quantity of performance is informed by other DSCI Staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Six years of administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to four years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in administrative staff or professional work for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS


DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1.Two years of experience supporting or coaching individuals in workforce development, education, case management, mentoring, or youth development settings with structured support systems and theory.

2. Two years of experience collecting, interpreting, and reporting data related to program performance, participant progress, or operational improvement with Google Suite and Online learning management systems or platforms

3.Two years of experience working with diverse populations and demonstrating strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, and communication skills, this experience must have been requiring direct client or participant engagement.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Limitations on selection: Limited to current DSCI State of Maryland employees only.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training, and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position. You may be asked to complete a supplemental questionnaire.

The supplemental questionnaire may be used as part of the rating process.  Therefore, it is important that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service is required prior to hire.

           Personal Leave- new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date). 

           Annual Leave – ten (10) days of accumulated annual leave per year.

           Sick Leave – fifteen (15) days of accumulated sick leave per year.

           Parental Leave – up to sixty (60) days of paid parental leave upon the birth or adoption of a child.

           Holidays – State employees also celebrate at least twelve (12) holiday per year.

           Pension – State employees earn credits towards a retirement pension.

           Positions may be eligible for telework.
