POSITION DUTIES
Are you interested in working in the heart of, and the largest city in Maryland's Eastern Shore? Salisbury still offers a small town vibe, and with less then an hour drive you are at the beautiful Ocean City shoreline. Not interested in the shoreline? Salisbury is full of history, and its beautiful downtown community has many shops, and restaurants to choose from.
The main purpose of this job is to learn the duties of the branch office manager, and assist with the planning, organizing, directing, and supervising the activities of the branch office representatives in the Salisbury Branch Office for the Comptroller of Maryland. This position directs the work of reporting staff, which may include professional, technical, or clerical workers.
Responsibilities also include the independent judgment of answering inquiries and complaints of taxpayers, businesses, tax preparers and the general public, who contact the local branch office by phone, in person, virtually, and correspondence through the CRM application.
This position will review and approve leave, as well as monitor staff coverage of the branch office. They will promulgate, promote, and ensure the compliance of policies, rules, regulations and procedures with the tax laws and regulations of the State. This position is considered one of the agency’s emergency essential personnel and is to ensure that the branch office is adequately staffed during normal work hours and is available during emergency situations.

- This position is not telework eligible.
- Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require operation of a personal motor vehicle.
- Employee assigned such duties will be required to possess driver’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
- Evening and weekend work may be required especially during peak times of the year.
- Employee must be able to tolerate an occasional uncomfortable or unpleasant experience presented by upset or irate taxpayers.
- Work may involve special physical demands such as lifting 25 to 35 pounds, climbing ladders, delivering supplies, etc.
- Employees are unable to prepare tax returns outside of the requirements of the job or work for private accounting companies.
- Leave may be limited during certain times of the year due to high volume events, projects or special assignments.
- The position is considered one of the agency's emergency essential personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Four years of professional work experience in auditing, accounting, tax law, general management or customer service.
Notes:
- Candidates may substitute the possession of an associates degree for two years of the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university for the required experience.
- Candidates may substitute 30 college credits from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience up to three years of experience.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in accounting and budget classification or accounting and budget specialty codes in the tax examining field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior supervisory/management experience.
- Customer Service Experience.
- Organizational skills.
- Experience with personal computer and software applications.
- Knowledge and experience in Maryland and Federal tax laws and forms.
