Main Purpose of Job
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Maryland Park Service, is
currently accepting applications for a seasonal Off-Road Administrative Assistant at
Wolf Den Run State Park in Oakland, Maryland (Garrett County). This position supports
the Administrative Officer and Park Ranger in operating and managing the office at
Maryland Park Service’s only off-road state park.
This is a full-time, 10-month position requiring availability on weekends and holidays.
Duties may include operating off-road machines and motor vehicles, working in various
weather conditions, and coordinating with external agencies.
Primary responsibilities include answering phones and emails, issuing permits, making
reservations, processing mail, and providing customer service. Additional duties include
preparing deposits; processing Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) permits using a Google Sheets
tracking system; issuing licenses through the MD Outdoors licensing system; tracking
user group data; reconciling budgets; monitoring revenue from multiple sources;
maintaining spreadsheets; processing invoices; and completing corporate card logs.
The incumbent should be familiar with off-road vehicles and the regulations governing
their use on public lands. The selected candidate will work closely with the
Administrative Officer and may occasionally assist at park headquarters at Herrington
Manor State Park.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School diploma or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: At least one year of personal or professional experience working in an office setting. Proficient use of computer applications and Google Sheets is required.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle or ORV. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland and five points or fewer on their current driving record. Please note, a provisional driver’s license will not be accepted as the restrictions may interfere with the job requirements.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
