Main Purpose of Job
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Maryland Park Service located in Annapolis, MD,
is currently accepting applications for one (1) Seasonal Contractual Project Review and Planning
Administrative Assistant. This 10-month contractual position provides direct support to the
Project Review and Planning team.
The selected candidate will assist with the intake of new
projects, monitoring the project review inbox for new projects, inputting data into the project
review database, and handling routine correspondence.
Duties will include compilation of project
files, document development and processing, and coordination with other units of DNR, other
agencies, and outside organizations. Planning support will include document preparation and
review, grant reporting and accounting, and database management. Administrative tasks will
include document scanning, scheduling meetings, and procurement assistance. Occasional
outreach, webpage development and social media may be required. This position will primarily
work at the Tawes State Office Building in Annapolis, Maryland but will be involved with state-
wide initiatives and may require occasional travel throughout the state of Maryland. The position
is telework eligible up to two days per week in accordance with the DNR Telework Policy.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university in business, public administration, communications, recreation and parks, or a natural resource-related field.
EXPERIENCE: One year of experience in an administrative support capacity is required for this position.
Note: Candidates may substitute additional education beyond the 60 credit hours, from an accredited college or university, at the rate of 30 credit hours for one year.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working at a public agency (local, state or federal) providing a familiarity with the working of government agencies;
- Experience using Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Google applications (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Drive), Adobe software and Docusign.
- Excellent organizational skills including data management, project tracking, and file management on shared network drives.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle, UTV or golf cart. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland and five points or fewer on their current driving record. Please note, a provisional driver’s license will not be accepted as the restrictions may interfere with the job requirements.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
