The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. POSITION DUTIES
The Inmate Affairs Specialist is responsible for
inmate correspondence and inquiries on behalf of the: Governor; Secretary,
Deputy Secretary for Operations, Deputy Secretary for Administration;
Commissioner of Correction, Commissioner of Pretrial Detention and Services;
Deputy Commissioner of Correction, Deputy Commissioner of Pretrial and Detention
Services; Assistant Commissioners of Correction; elected officials; and interdepartmental
and outside agencies, as it related to those in custody in Maryland state correctional
facilities.
This position's primary focus will be to conduct
research, draft correspondence, letters, and/or other written materials. Strong
writing, editing and organizational skills are necessary. This position will
receive a large volume of constituent correspondence on a wide range of
departmental issues.
This position will primarily handle complaints
and concerns from inmates, inmate’s families and other constituents concerning
conditions of confinement. The incumbent will also be responsible for providing
and monitoring confidential case data on complaints that support program
improvement needs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation
from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency
certificate.
Experience: Three years of
administrative staff or professional work.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute 30
college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up
to two years of the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute the
possession of a Bachelor's degree from a college or university for
the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience providing direct support to a Director and or executive leadership.
- Experience reviewing, tracking, and responding to inquiries from Incarcerated Individuals and their families.
