POSITION DUTIES

The Revenue Administration division is seeking a highly motivated individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills & the ability to work effectively with management and other employees, for the position of Revenue Specialist II, within the Document Control Unit of the Returns Processing section. We are looking for someone who is great at building and maintaining strong relationships with others and has the ability to be resilient, the ability to handle high pressure situations is crucial and have strong communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, tax law knowledge. Supervisory duties of this position will include training and mentoring junior staff, delegate daily tasks, managing workflow, monitor productivity and inventory, completing and distributing daily reports, maintain leave reports, complete PEP's and inspiring team members to achieve the units goals. Disciplinary recommendations are also part of the supervisory duties. As a working supervisor, your duties will include correcting returns, payments and associated documents for review on all tax types, receive and resolve action items within a specific time frame, effectively communicate with other members of the division regarding tax related documents, managing multiple projects simultaneously just to name a few.

Please Note: 
  • May is requested to work evenings and/or Saturdays during the Tax Season. For the purpose of this statement, Tax Season shall be defined as the period beginning January 15th and closing May 15th.
  • Work may involve special physical demands such as lifting, carrying, transporting of tubs, trays, boxes, mail, packages, returns, etc, weighing up to 50 pounds. Extended periods of sitting or standing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate, including or supplemented by a course in bookkeeping or accounting.

Experience: Four years of experience performing work in tax assessments, collections, investigations, examinations, adjustments or taxpayer services within two or more of the specialized fields of revenue administration or performing work in tax assessments, collections, investigations, examinations, adjustments or taxpayer services within the motor fuel/motor carrier tax field. The specialized fields may include sales and use tax, income tax, admissions and amusement tax, withholding tax, alcohol and tobacco tax, and any other revenue levy authorized by the legislature.

Notes:

  1. Candidates may substitute the possession of an Associate of Arts degree from an accredited college or university for one year of the required experience.
  2. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree, with twelve credit hours in accounting or auditing, from an accredited college or university for two years of the required experience.
  3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in finance technician classification or finance technician specialty codes in the financial clerical and technician field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

** For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to train staff
  • Ability to administer, supervise, plan, schedule, assign and evaluate work
  • Experience processing tax returns
  • Experience with Maryland tax law
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of various computer programs
  • Experience with the SMART, Fairfax and RSI systems
