POSITION DUTIES

The Shared Services Division within the OPSB, DBM, is seeking indviduals to work at the SPS Help Desk to assist with system user support calls. Successful candidates will function in a support role in the Division, and shall be able to work independently.

Specifically, duties involve resetting system passwords, walking employees through system processes, following up to make sure issues have been resolved, and providing feedback about the system. This is a temporary position that will start in September 2026 and end in December 2026. Core work hours are from 8:00am to 4:30pm for an 8 hour day schedule during these times. This is remote work. We provide work equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Six months of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

  1. Previous help desk support experience. 
  2. Current software experience with Google Suite. 
  3. Intermediate level experience in MS Office including Word and Excel.
  4. Excellent verbal and communication skills.
  5. Experience researching materials using the internet, explaining process steps to others.
  6. Team player. 
  7. Customer-focused, sense of urgency to resolve issues.
  8. Well organized, self starter who eagerly approaches new challenges.
  9. Proven ability to handle confidential information and sensitive situations with tact and maturity

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SELECTION PROCESS

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
