Main Purpose of Job
As a Personnel Associate II, you serve as a vital pillar of the MSD community, ensuring our dedicated staff can focus on their mission of educating students. In this role, you act as a primary advocate and problem-solver, managing the full employee lifecycle, from processing accurate, timely payroll and health benefits to navigating retirement and personnel inquiries with a human touch. By coordinating recruitment workflows in Workday and JobAps, managing criminal background checks, and overseeing Workers' Compensation claims, you provide the administrative excellence and financial peace of mind that allow our bilingual, diverse community to thrive. Additionally, you own the 'heartbeat' of our internal communication; using the Smore platform, you will design and distribute our monthly HR newsletter to celebrate milestones and foster a connected culture across the school.
POSITION DUTIES
In
this role, you are responsible for the administration and implementation of
personnel functions in strict accordance with Maryland State regulations. You
will manage the full lifecycle of payroll for both PIN and contractual
employees by auditing Workday timesheets, verifying leave usage, and ensuring
proper coding for FMLA, accident leave, and compensatory time. Beyond payroll,
you initiate recruitment workflows in JobAps and Workday, and manage essential
onboarding requirements such as criminal background checks and fingerprinting.
You also serve as a dedicated resource for employee wellness and safety,
processing Workers' Compensation claims, assisting with health benefits
enrollment, and providing guidance on retirement and service milestones.
Additionally, you drive internal engagement by designing and distributing the
monthly HR newsletter via the Smore platform to foster a connected and informed
school culture.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: One year of general clerical or administrative support experience, at least six months must have been paraprofessional personnel experience involving the application of personnel procedures, policies, rules, and regulations to specific employment actions. Appropriate paraprofessional personnel experience should have included responsibility for activities such as, preparing and maintaining employment records, calculating salaries, applying and interpreting rules and policies, preparing personnel-related reports, counseling employees regarding benefits and obligations, and responding to inquiries concerning employment actions.
Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in human resources assistance classification or human resources assistance specialty codes in the human resources management field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
