Introduction
The Maryland Department of Labor, (MD Labor), Division of Unemployment Insurance is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of UI Tax Accountant Professional III. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year after the closing date of the announcement.

Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this position, UI Tax
Accountant Professional III, is to provide a full performance level of work in
the Wage Reporting and Accounting Unit within the Accounting and Fund
Management Section within the Unemployment Insurance Contributions Division
(UI) of the Department of Labor (DOL) applying generally accepted accounting
principles. This position receives general supervision from the Wage Reporting
and Accounting Unit Assistant Supervisor. This position examines, analyzes, and
interprets accounting systems, records, and reports within the Re-Employment
BEACON system by applying generally accepted accounting principles; maintains
UI accounting systems and accounting records; prepares financial and management
reports; reviews and approves financial transactions specifically related to
the Unemployment Insurance program; reviews and takes appropriate action on
work items generated through the Re-Employment BEACON system; assists with
development and revision of UI accounting policies to improve UI accounting
controls and efficiency; assists with formulating internal controls to ensure
the reliability and security of UI funds and records. The position requires
extensive knowledge of the generally accepted accounting principles and various
programs within unemployment insurance, as well as federal and state
unemployment insurance law.
POSITION DUTIES
· Examines, analyzes and interprets accounting systems, records and reports within Re-Employment BEACON system by applying generally accepted accounting principles.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applications that meet the minimum and
selective qualifications will be referred to the hiring manager for interview
selection. Units will select those candidates most closely demonstrating the
qualifications for interview.
Education: A Bachelor's
degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university, or a Bachelor’s
degree with 30 credit hours in accounting and/or related courses.
Experience: Three
years of professional accounting experience or three years of experience
examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports
by applying generally accepted accounting principles.
Notes:
1. Candidates may
substitute the possession of a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or
a Master’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university for
two years of the required experience.
2. Applicants who have
met the requirements for admission to the CPA examination prior to July 1, 1974
will be considered to have met the educational requirement referenced above.
3. Candidates may
substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned
officer in the Accounting Officer classification or Financial Management
specialty codes in the Accounting field of work on a year-for-year basis for
the required experience and education.

Strong written and oral communication experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Personnel employed in this classification will
have access to federal tax information and must undergo a state and FBI
criminal background check as a condition of employment.
