Introduction
The Maryland Department of Labor, (MD Labor), Division of Unemployment Insurance is accepting applications from qualified candidates for the position of UI Professional III (BPC Fraud Investigator). This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies. The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year after the closing date of the announcement.

Main Purpose of Job
POSITION DUTIES
RESPONDS TO TELEPHONE AND/OR EMAIL INQUIRIES FROM BOTH INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL CUSTOMERS; GATHERS AND ANALYZES INFORMATION FROM CLAIMANTS TO DETERMINE THE APPROPRIATE TYPE OF UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE CLAIM; MAINTAINS AND UPDATES CLAIMANT ACCOUNT INFORMATION; RESEARCH AND ANSWERS CLAIMANT QUESTIONS REGARDING UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE BENEFITS; OBTAINS AND RECORDS EARNINGS AND EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION; EXAMINES CLAIM HISTORY TO ENSURE PROMPT AND ACCURATE PAYMENT OF BENEFITS; CONDUCTS BULK PROCESSING CLAIMS; ANALYZES REPORTS TO DETERMINE AND RESOLVE ISSUES REGARDING UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE CLAIMS; PRESENTS UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE INFORMATION OFFSITE DURING RAPID RESPONSE AND BULK CLAIM SESSIONS; CONDUCTS SEPARATION, AND/OR NON-SEPARATION FACT FINDING INTERVIEWS AND DOCUMENT INFORMATION GATHERED; APPROVES OR DISQUALIFIES CLAIMS BY APPLYING UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE LAWS, REGULATIONS, AND/OR DIRECTIVES; EVALUATES UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE CLAIMS TO DETECT IMPROPER PAYMENTS AND FRAUD.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applications that meet the minimum and
selective qualifications will be referred to the hiring manager for interview
selection. Units will select those candidates most closely demonstrating the
qualifications for interview.
Experience: Six years of
experience in a public/or private agency rendering and/or determining
eligibility for a Human Service Program or other programs.
Notes:
1. Candidates may
substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or
university and two years of experience in
a public/or private agency rendering and/or determining eligibility for a Human
Service Program or other programs for the required experience.
2. Candidates may
substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or
university at the rate of 30 credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the
required experience.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants
must meet the selective qualification(s) to be considered. Include clear

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who
possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and

Experience using standard office equipment, including photocopiers, calculators, personal computers, and printers.
Experience applying new computer applications and systems, which include but are not limited to Microsoft Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Experience with verification of
identification (i.e., driver's license, Social Security cards, or passports)
Experience with state unemployment laws,
rules, and regulations and determinations.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Personnel employed in this classification will
have access to federal tax information and must undergo a state and FBI
criminal background check as a condition of employment.
All candidates are subject to a
background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment
Insurance (MD Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to MD Labor/DUI
as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud. Any unpaid debt may
have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
