Introduction

The Maryland Insurance Administration (MIA) is an independent State agency that regulates Maryland’s $49 billion insurance industry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers’ and insurance professionals’ compliance with State law.  Staff members are subject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers, consumers, and other public and private entities.


The MIA is charged with a broad range of responsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriers and insurance producers (brokers/agents) operating in Maryland, the conduct of financial examinations of companies to monitor financial solvency, and the review and approval of rates and contract forms.  The MIA investigates reports of consumer fraud and consumer complaints about life, health, automobile, homeowners, and/or property insurance.  Insurance carriers are subject to market conduct examinations and other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland law.  The MIA also has a unit dedicated to consumer education and outreach, which participates in hundreds of events and reaches thousands of individual consumers annually.

Market Conduct Examiner, Life and Health I: Grade 15 ($62,220 - $96,790/year)

Market Conduct Examiner, Life and Health II: Grade 16 ($66,314 - $103,309/year)

Baltimore City or Hybrid (between office and telework)

POSITION DUTIES

The Maryland Insurance Administration’s Market Regulation and Professional Licensing Division is recruiting for a Market Conduct Examiner I - II, Life and Health. The Life and Health Market Conduct Unit investigates life and health companies for compliance with Maryland and federal law. This position performs investigations, desk audits, and on site examinations of the business practices of HMOs, dental plans, nonprofit health service plans, as well as life and health insurers.  Also any other person or entities engaged in the life and health insurance industry and regulated by the Maryland Insurance Administration.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Market Conduct Examiner I

Bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university.

OR

Four years of experience as an underwriter, auditor, claims adjuster, insurance producer, insurance regulator or other related experience.



Market Conduct Examiner II

Bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university, and one year of experience as an underwriter, claims adjuster, insurance producer, insurance regulator or related profession.

OR 

Five years of experience as an underwriter, auditor, claims adjuster, insurance producer, insurance regulator or other related experience.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Liberal Arts Degree
