Introduction
Maryland School for the Deaf (MSD) is a

This is
an 11-month position.

Main Purpose of Job
Provide
administrative support to the Principal of the Middle School department and the
Director of Student Life.
POSITION DUTIES
Manage
the office of the Middle School department in the daily operations of the
program as well as support the Student Life department. In addition to
supporting the Middle School Principal and Director of Student Life, this
position serves students, families, teachers, staff, and visitors. Duties
include developing, proofreading, and distributing correspondence, memos,
forms, and reports for both classroom and dormitory staff, answering department
phone calls, assisting with lunch duty, developing or securing materials for
classrooms, tracking and sharing daily afterschool program student attendance,
developing and maintaining medical assistance billing for all departments, and
serving as a medical assistance provider for several students. This position
also supports the Student Life department by sending confirmation letters of
dorm placements to families, updating RCYCP staff records, and maintaining
files for the Department of Human Services. This position will collaborate
closely with the Campus Chief Educational Programs Officer’s office and with
other programs in the school. May include communication with outside state and
local agencies. May be asked to assume other duties as assigned by the Middle
School Principal, Director of Student Life, or the Campus Chief Educational
Programs Officer.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School
diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Fluency in English and American Sign
Language required.
Experience: Four years
performing office, secretarial type, or clerical work involving typing duties.
Notes:
1. Additional secretarial or clerical
experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required
education.
2. Thirty credit hours with a major in
secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be
substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to
two years of the required experience.
Strong English writing skills. Fluency in American Sign Language required.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience
in a school setting or clerical work preferred. Knowledge of Deaf Community
preferred. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
New hires are subject to a criminal
background investigation at their own expense. (Maryland Code, Family Law
Article 1, Sections 5-560-568)
