POSITION DUTIES

Serves as Associate Director of Psychiatry for Patuxent Institution to assist in discharging the diagnostic and remediation functions of the facility's agency-unique programs and services. Serves as the clinical director for psychiatric services for the statutory programs (i.e., the Eligible Person and Patuxent Youth Programs). Provides hands-on medication management, assessment, and therapeutic services. Develops and implements psychiatric guidelines, procedures, standards, and controls.  Formulates related policy.   Ensures that all psychiatric services are in accordance with best practices and are specifically applicable to the target population(s).  Serves as a board member of Patuxent’s Institutional Board of Review. Participates in meetings of Patuxent’s Citizens Advisory Board.  Serves as a voting member of Patuxent’s Diagnostic Review Committee and Further Study Conferences. 

Additionally, may provide managerial oversight to non-statutory programs and services as needed, as well as provide screening/evaluation/therapeutic services to those not involved in statutory programming. May serve as a point of contact between the institution and the contractor that provides medical services to the incarcerated population and psychiatric services to those in non-statutory programming.  Responsible for other tasks from the Director as assigned, which include (but are not limited to) serving as the Director’s designee with regard to attending various departmental, institutional, and community-based meetings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Three years of experience in the practice or teaching of psychiatry.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees are required to be licensed as a Medical Doctor by the Maryland Board of Physicians prior to appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have a license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license is obtained, submit a copy to the hiring department.
