Introduction

The Thomas B. Finan Center is an inpatient psychiatric hospital located in Cumberland, Maryland. It is owned and managed by the state of Maryland.  This state psychiatric facility operates 88 beds. The Finan Center provides services to persons who are 18 years of age and older.

This facility is located two and a half hours from Baltimore, MD.

Main Purpose of Job

The Chaplain coordinates the pastoral care services for the Thomas B. Finan Center to include coordination of the community clergy services for the hospital.

POSITION DUTIES

Some job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Providing pastoral care ministry to patients and staff members requesting services. 
  • Providing regularly scheduled organized religious functions to all patients who request it. 
  • Participating in hospital-wide functions in order to promote a pastoral-spiritual environment that is caring and responsive to all elements of human dignity. 
  • Participating in ongoing Performance Improvement and special projects as requested. This is done through analysis of treatment and program outcomes and participation in Performance Improvement teams.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a Master's of Divinity degree from a recognized theological seminary or equivalent and be ordained or commissioned to function in a ministry.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:
  • Chaplaincy and Ministry experience
  • Pastoral Care experience
  • Experience in a Forensic, Psychiatric or Healthcare setting
  • Experience with extra services including Bible Study, Worship Events and Individual Pastoral Counseling
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
The desired candidate should also possess Board of Chaplaincy Certification.

Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
