As part of the Maryland State Department of Education, the Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) provides services to assist students with disabilities prepare for the work world, vocational rehabilitation services to assist adults with significant disabilities who are seeking to enter or reenter the workforce, and the adjudication of Social Security disability claims for the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

This position is responsible for coordinating and delivering Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) and vocational rehabilitation services to transitioning youth with physical and mental disabilities, leading to employment, including job development and job placement. This includes conducting interviews, verification of personal information, gathering and evaluating medical, educational, and vocational records, and application of federal and state laws and regulations.

Position Duties Include: 
  • Coordinates services to assist transitioning youth with disabilities in preparing for or obtaining employment. 
  • Determines eligibility of vocational rehabilitation services.
  • Provides individual career counseling to transitioning youth with disabilities.
  • Reviews medical, psychological and vocational records to evaluate the nature and extent of the disability.
  • Obtains services from other community agencies for transitioning youth with disabilities.
  • Provides job placement, post-employment, and follow-up services.
  • Apply federal/state regulations, as well as DORS policies and procedures, regarding eligibility for vocational rehabilitation or Pre-ETS programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree.

Experience: Two years of professional experience in a behavioral or social science-related field or one year of professional experience as a Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist I providing rehabilitation counseling or vocational evaluation services to clients with physical or behavioral disabilities, or teaching services to clients with partial or total visual impairment.

Note: A master's degree and one year of experience in a behavioral or social science-related field may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  •   Experience working with transitioning youth and/or individuals with disabilities. 
  •   Experience using an electronic case management system.  
  •   Experience in a Human Services field.  
  •   Experience providing career counseling and skill in an adaptive and assistive technologies.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must consent to a State Police Investigation (fingerprinting) as a routine procedure for all employees with this Agency.
