We are seeking passionate individuals for the role of Payroll Technician (Fiscal Accounts Technician II), so come join our team and make a meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS!

As a Payroll Technician, you will be a vital part of the agency, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing and supporting key fiscal operations across our facilities and community programs. This role provides an opportunity to make a direct impact on organizational efficiency, compliance, and staff satisfaction. This is a dynamic, highly visible role for someone who enjoys problem-solving, collaborating across teams, and ensuring that critical processes run smoothly.

In this position, you will:
  • Manage Payroll Operations: Enter and review timesheets weekly from Time Clock Plus (TCP) into Workday (WD), reconcile payroll, and generate reports that ensure accuracy and support decision-making across the agency.
  • Support Staff Across Units: Collaborate with mid- to senior-level staff to verify timesheets, provide guidance on payroll and timekeeping policies, and ensure approvals are completed on schedule.
  • Handle Leave and Payroll Requests: Review leave forms, respond to payroll inquiries, and provide support to staff via email, phone, or in-person meetings.
  • Assist with Budget and Financial Analysis: Compile payroll data for budget preparation, review payroll differences, and process payroll codes and COLA adjustments as needed.
  • Ensure Proper Coding and Reporting: Review payroll default coding, prepare journal entries, and create reports to maintain accuracy and compliance with agency and financial systems.
  • Support Additional Fiscal Operations: Calculate funding for payroll advances, issue checks, and ensure all fiscal documentation is accurate and complete.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One (1) year of experience reconciling agency accounting systems to fiscal control systems or developing automated spreadsheets, ledgers and reports using accounting software packages or identifying budget trends and recommending budget realignments.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute experience calculating and recording financial, statistical or other numerical data may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in Financial Clerical/Finance Technicians classifications or specialty codes in the financial field of work at a rate of one year of military experience for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates for this position must meet both the minimum qualifications listed above and the selective qualification listed below to be considered.

At least one (1) year of professional experience using Time Clock Plus and Workday, or a similar systems.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate for this position may possess any of the following:
  • Experience using automated time and attendance system(s) is highly desired
  • Experience reviewing or auditing numerical and/or accounting documents for errors (e.g., spreadsheets, time cards, credit card statements, etc.).
