POSITION DUTIES

Would you like to work in historic Annapolis blocks away from a scenic harbor with many top restaurants and shops? The Compass Division of the Comptroller of Maryland is currently migrating to a modern integrated tax system (ITS). We are seeking to hire IT Functional Analyst Trainees to assist our Training and Production Support Sections. The Trainees will learn to assist with end-user training or to assist with monitoring and testing system migrations and access management functions. These positions are eligible for teleworking on a hybrid schedule.

PLEASE NOTE: Evening and weekend work may be required during peak times of the year. Leave may be limited during certain times of the year due to high volume events, projects or special assignments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Four years of experience responding to and resolving help desk calls from users of computers, or operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, database or other applications.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Public Administration, Information Technology or other related field with specific coursework in the structure and use of automated information systems for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources Management, Public Administration, Information Technology or other related field with specific coursework in the structure and use of automated information systems for each year up to four years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and two years of experience responding to and resolving help desk calls from users of computers, or operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, database or other applications for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Cyber and Information Systems classifications or Cyber and Information specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.


** For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge and experience with the functions and capabilities of automated business systems.
  • Skill in providing user support and coordinating system development and implementation.
  • Skill in creating, reviewing and updating application documentation and training materials.
  • Skill in applying analytical and critical thinking to enable effective troubleshooting for simple and complex application system problems.
  • Skill in communicating effectively and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and experience in Maryland tax laws and forms.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and be part of a team.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Must work on site in Annapolis, Monday through Friday in a full-time capacity. Required hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. A hybrid telework schedule may be available after completion of system and tax training. Employees are unable to prepare tax returns outside of the requirements of the job or work for a private accounting company.
