The Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS) is seeking dedicated candidates to fill important roles within our department. Main Purpose of Job

Reviews, verifies and interprets information in order to make determinations and resolve problems involving the calculation of adult incarcerated individuals' prison sentences in accordance with State laws and the regulations and policies of the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.

POSITION DUTIES

Reviews, audits, adjusts inmate records following specialized commitment procedures which may include:

Reviewing and adjusting Incarcerated Individual commitment information upon intake.

Adjusting Incarcerated Individual records as necessary in instances of escape, release or parole violations.

Reviewing and adjusting an Incarcerated Individual records prior to release, court appearances or transfers.

Process 50 to 60 new commitment packets for verification and file in active files.

Process 50 to 60 Incarcerated Individual papers and prepare for release daily.

Process the preparation of approximately 250 Incarcerated Individual commitment papers for court appearance in District and Circuit Court.

Process 30 or more sentenced Incarcerated Individual for transfer to Division of Corrections.

Processes other Incarcerated Individual information into Statewide Computer System maintaining necessary backup information including but not limited to:

Placing and lifting detainer information

Posting Incarcerated Individual good conduct credits or revocation of credits.

Posting court dates, dispositions or other pertinent information.

Prepare and processes necessary correspondence regarding Incarcerated Individual sentencing to include, but not limited to:

Writing or calling courts for clarification of sentencing or commitment documents.

Providing outside agencies or individuals such as bail bondsmen, attorneys, detention centers, etc. with requesting information.

Prepares Incarcerated Individual commitment files or records needed on a daily basis for court appearance and coordinates their transport with staff from the appropriate Transportation Unit. Processes returning court paperwork, i.e. original detainers, copies of commitment records, etc.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience in reviewing, verifying and interpreting information for compliance with laws, regulations and policies.

Notes:

1.  Applicants may substitute education from an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for one year of experience for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

  • Personal Leave - new State employees are awarded six (6) personnel days annually (prorated based on start date). 
  • Annual Leave - ten (10) days of accumulated annual leave per year.
