Main Purpose of Job

The position works on the day to day digitization of materials in the Annapolis facility. The focus is the digitization of patron and paid agency scanning requests. The positions consults with the Director to determine best practice for digitization requests. The position utilizes a variety of digitization equipment and editing software to create images for delivery to patrons and/or upload to the permanent electronic repository. The position is critical to the meet agency’s mission of providing access to the records of the State to the general public. In addition the position aids in the preservation of records through digitization.

POSITION DUTIES

- Learns to scan media utilizing a variety of digitization equipment in accordance with Department policies. Position is responsible for the appropriate care and maintenance of the digitization equipment that they use. The position uses a variety of editing and renaming software to prepare images for delivery to patrons and/or upload to the permanent electronic repository in accordance with Department policies.

- Provides regular updates on scanning projects to their supervisor or lead worker  in a timely manner.

- Consults with Conservation staff on preparing delicate records for digitization.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Completion of the Ninth grade.

Experience: One year of experience assisting professional archivists in the areas of Collections Management; Conservation; Constituent, Interagency Services, and Reference Services; Image Acquisition; Library; Maryland Manual; or Research.

Notes:

1. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate can be substituted for the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Archivist classifications or Archivist specialty codes in the Library and Archives field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

-Experience utilizing digitization and photography equipment

-Experience using a variety of editing and naming software to prepare images for delivery to patrons and/or upload to the permanent electronic repository in accordance with Department policies

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

NOT APPLICABLE.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees may be required to lift up to 50 pounds when records shipments arrive and climb short ladders. Employees in this classification must exercise caution during the retrieval and replacement of heavy volumes from library shelves, particularly when using library ladders.  Employees may work a rotating shift and may be required to work Saturdays.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a contractual employee at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
