The Maryland Department of Juvenile Services (DJS) is dedicated to transforming young lives, creating safer communities, and fostering equitable systems. We are seeking passionate individuals for the role of the DJS Assistant Superintendent Residential Facility II, so come join our team and make a meaningful impact on youth and the community at DJS!
The main purpose of this position will be to assist the Facility Administrator in providing direct management and supervision for the operation of a juvenile facility, to include personnel and youth court ordered into the custody of the facility.
Some key responsibilities of this position may include, but not be limited, to the following:
• Assist Facility Administrator in managing the overall day-to-day operations of a juvenile facility in accordance with Departmental and Divisional policy and procedures.
• Responsible for the day-to-day security operations and ensure closer supervision of direct care personnel. Ensures that safety and security are maintained in the facility and that operations are in compliance with laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
• Coordinate staff development and training programs in compliance with the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC), while assuring staff’s awareness of the most current trends and practices in the field of Juvenile Services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. certificate recognized by the Maryland State Board of Education, as required by Correctional Training Commission regulations.
Experience: Six (6) years of experience supervising youth in a
juvenile facility, community program for at-risk youth, or correctional
setting, including at least two (2) years overseeing staff who provide services
to youth.
Note: An Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, social
sciences, or behavioral sciences may substitute for up to one (1) year of the
required experience. A Bachelor’s degree in these fields may substitute for up
to two (2) years of the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred candidate for this position may possess any of the following qualifications:
· A Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice,
social or behavioral sciences, or a related field is preferred.
· Knowledge and/or experience working with youth
in a treatment setting.
· Ability to teach, train, and build effective
teams within the facility.
· Safety and security-minded, with the ability
to implement systems and schedules effectively.
· Flexibility with work schedule, including the
ability to work evening hours.
