LOCATION OF POSITION
Main Purpose of Job
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have completed a minimum of 60 college credits, preferably in public health, environmental science, biology, or a related field.
- Must meet the Board of Environmental Health Specialists' academic criteria.
- Proficiency in English, basic arithmetic, and grammar.
- Understanding of public and environmental health concepts (soil, water, air, and food science).
- Familiarity with Maryland’s political and legal structures relevant to public health.
- Ability to prepare and present findings and reports.
- Experience or demonstrated potential to conduct investigations and communicate with diverse audiences.
- Ability to interpret and apply environmental health regulations.
- Physical ability to perform field duties (e.g., stooping, PPE use, walking on uneven surfaces).
- Adaptability to learn and follow safety protocols and procedures.
- Willingness to complete a two-year apprenticeship that includes on-the-job training and academic coursework at Morgan State University.
- Must be able to work part-time or full-time at MDH while enrolled in coursework.
- A valid driver’s license is required due to travel needs for fieldwork.
- Must be able to communicate respectfully and effectively with diverse populations.
- Must adhere to safety protocols and infection control standards.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Minimum of 2 years of college experience (60 credits) or an Associates degree; must meet the entrance criteria for the Apprenticeship.
