Announcing the Service Year Option The Department of Service and Civic Innovation was established by the Serving Every Region Through Vocational Exploration (SERVE) Act of 2023 with the purpose of promoting service and volunteerism in the state of Maryland. The SERVE Act also launched two new exciting service pathways for eligible youth and adults, in addition to existing volunteer and service opportunities available through the Governor's Office on Service and Volunteerism.

Main Purpose of Job
The Alumni Coordinator works with the Alumni Manager to lead the planning and implementation of a robust alumni program to build, strengthen, mobilize, and support a growing alumni network of individuals who have participated in DSCI programs, including Maryland Corps/Service Year Option and 30+ years of AmeriCorps alumni across the State of Maryland.
This leader will develop and implement strategies to cultivate lifelong engagement, foster leadership development, promote continued civic participation, and connect alumni with one another and with meaningful opportunities in the public, nonprofit, and private sectors.
This position assists with the development of strategy and execution of programs for thousands of alumni across the state. The incumbent will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of the alumni work.
POSITION DUTIES
This position’s role includes, but is not limited to:
- Design and manage systems, tools, and resources to support alumni, including a centralized database offering access to scholarships, internships, and employment opportunities.
- Create and maintain a comprehensive alumni communication network to facilitate social, professional, and educational engagement through events focused on networking, volunteering, and career development.
- Collaborate with the Data and Innovation team to lead alumni surveying efforts, including meeting statutory requirements for regular data collection and using insights to inform programmatic decisions.
- Develop and deliver regular reports on alumni status, engagement, and achievements.
- Design and implement short- and long-term strategies for statewide alumni engagement, fostering inclusive and sustained participation.
- Establish programmatic goals, performance metrics, and accountability standards to ensure alignment with DSCI’s mission and strategic priorities.
- Lead the communication and tracking processes for alumni seeking career and educational resources, ensuring timely and effective support.
The incumbent must have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and professionally.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three years of administrative staff or professional work.
Notes:
Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year up to two years of the required experience.
Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from a college or university for the required experience.
Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Applicants must Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
- At least 1 year of proficiency in Smartsheet, Microsoft Excel, Google Workspace, Slack and/or Build Within platforms.
- At least 1 year of experience in recruiting, coordinating, and managing guest speakers for weekly webinars on topics relevant to alumni interests and professional development.
- At least 1 year of experience in organizing statewide service events to foster alumni engagement and community involvement
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
