Introduction

The Maryland Historical Trust (MHT), an agency of the Maryland Department of Planning, is seeking to hire a full time permanent Grounds and Event Safety Technician for Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum (JPPM). Located on 560 scenic acres along the Patuxent River in Calvert County, Maryland, JPPM is home to over 65 archaeological sites, more than 30 historic buildings and structures, and the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory.

POSITION DUTIES

The Grounds and Event Safety Technician functions as a lead worker, assisting the Maintenance Supervisor in assigning personnel daily tasks to ensure the facility and grounds management of Jefferson Patterson Park (JPPM) is accomplished correctly, safely, and on time. This position assumes the responsibilities of the Maintenance Chief IV or Maintenance Supervisor in their absence(s). They are responsible for monitoring facilities during daily operations, rentals, and events to ensure that JPPM policies are being followed. As part of their regular duties, they perform maintenance and repairs on buildings, grounds, tools, equipment, vehicles, and tractors. They oversee daily equipment readings, perform scheduled preventative maintenance, provide grounds and custodial maintenance services for office areas, public buildings, restrooms, and picnic areas at JPPM. This position provides facility-wide support in all areas mentioned above in order to allow the JPPM staff an adequate and safe working environment in which to meet the mission of MDP and JPPM.

Position duties include but are not limited to:

  • Lead worker for Grounds and Facility Maintenance: Assists the maintenance supervisor in operations of the grounds and  facilities.
  • Grounds Maintenance: Oversees, coordinates, and ensures groomed and maintained appearance of JPPM grounds (560 acres) by mowing,  trimming, and clearing.
  • Event Monitoring: Monitors the Pavilion, MAC Meeting Room, and other venues during events and while renters are  utilizing the facilities.
  • Safety Monitoring: Remains in communication with and open to receive communication from park personnel.
  • Custodial Services: Responsible for, overseeing schedules, and  coordinating building cleaning for each building located at the park. 
  • Building Maintenance: Performs routine maintenance and repairs of all  buildings. 
  • Stationary Mechanical Equipment and Tool Maintenance: Performs  preventative maintenance and inspections of all installed equipment as scheduled.
  • Tools: Uses hand and electric and gas powered tools in a proper and safe  manner. 
  • Vehicle/Equipment Operations: Operates all vehicles.
  • Warehouse Operations: Determines type and quantity, ensure sufficient supplies and materials are available to perform the work required by the maintenance department. 
  • Other facility related maintenance duties: Includes but is not limited to  filling in weekly worklogs and other paperwork as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four years of experience performing skilled trade work in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, locksmith, masonry, painting, or welding work. 

Note: 
1. Candidates may substitute additional years of experience for the required education on a year-for-year basis. 
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.

One year of experience supporting private or public event planning, management, or execution that includes customer or stakeholder engagement.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

2. Employees in this classification who perform electrical work and are assigned to facilities that mandate licensed electricians must possess a current license as a Master Electrician or other appropriate electrician license from a local board or from the Maryland State Board of Master Electricians, 500 N. Calvert Street, Baltimore, Maryland 21202-3651.

3. Employees in this classification who perform work as a plumber must possess a Maryland Journeyman/Gas Fitter License.
